July Wrap Up {2015}

JULY PIC

Hey everyone! Today I’m going to be doing my July Reading Wrap Up! I had a terrible reading month in June and I was worried that it would carry over into this month, but it didn’t! I read eleven books this month and started 2 others that I didn’t finish.

This has been my best reading month EVER. So I am really excited to show you what I read this month! But before we get started let me just make sure you know that all of these opinions are my own! I only have reviews up for a few of these books, but I hope to get reviews for most of them up soon!

Feel free to tell me in the comments how you did with reading this month! I would love to hear!

So without further ado, let’s get this July Reading party started!

falling-kingdomsSo the first book that I read this month was Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes. I was about 100 pages in when June ended, but I read a majority of it this month so I am counting it as a full book read this month! I loved it! I won’t get too deep into my thoughts because I have a full review that you can read! But I absolutely ADORE this book! It was so rich and developed and I just cannot get enough of Mytica.

Overall rating:
5/5

So after I read that hardcore fantasy book I was in the mood for a summer-y on the fencebook! So I picked up on the Fence by Kasie West. I really enjoyed this book! I thought that it was light and cute. I really loved the relationships between the main character and her brothers. The only problem that I had with this book was that I couldn’t really relate to the main character. She was either in super girly mode or total athlete mode. And since I am neither, I just couldn’t completely understand her mindset, but she was still likeable.

Overall rating:
4/5

The OneThen I picked up The One by Kiera Cass and OH MY GOSH. It was so amazing! You can read my full review here! But basically this book killed me in the best way possible. It made me cry. AND BOOKS DON’T EVER MAKE ME CRY. Well, that’s an overstatement…but happy tears aren’t a thing that I normally do, and thanks to Kiera Cass, happy tears were a thing that I did. I highly recommend this series to everyone! I know that they sound petty and pretty brainless, but they are so much more than they are made out to be!

Overall rating:
5/5

And then I don’t know if this next thing even needs to be in this wrap up, but I’m going to put it in here anyways. And that is The One Bonus Epilogue that comes with the paperback boxset. Weren’t expecting that were you? Well, anyways…I don’t think that this added anything necessary to the actual story itself, but when I started to feel The One book hangover coming on it was perfect. It was ten pages of sweetness and perfection! Can you tell that I kind of like these books?

Overall rating:
5/5

This next book I read about a half or a third of before I put it down. What I twilightwas reading I was really liking, but it’s the first book in a series, so it was pretty slow. And when I felt the slump coming on I stuck a bookmark in it and put it away for a while and haven’t picked it up again yet. That book is Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. Everything that I’ve read so far was really good and I really enjoyed it. At this point I don’t see why people hate on it so much. So I will absolutely finish it, I just don’t know when.

So far rating:
3.5-4/5

sea of monsters graphicThen I read Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters Graphic Novel. I do like the actual novels better, but I feel like this was a solid adaption. The art was cool, but of course I pictured some things differently. My favorite scene from the actual book was cut short for the graphic novel, so that was a little sad. Overall I really liked it! I got to sort of enter this world again without having to read an entire book. Like what a movie adaption is supposed to do, but in this case, we have the awesome graphic novels! If you’re a fan of the books, this is a must read!

Overall rating:
4.5/5

And then I got my braces off so my parents bought me a book! I chose rebel springRebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes. As I just said above, I loved falling Kingdoms. So I was SUPER excited to jump right into the sequel! It was just as exciting and amazing as the first. I only had one issue near the end of the book with Nic. He was one of my favorite characters in the last one, but I had a big issue with him at the close of this book. I hope to have a full review of this book up soon!

Overall rating:
4.5/5

Colasanti_AllINeed_PreSales.inddAnd then I was so strongly in a summer-y book mood that I couldn’t help but read the only one on my shelf. So that being said I picked up All I Need by Susane Colasanti. This was…eh. I was pretty disappointed with it, actually. The characters fell pretty flat for me, and I felt like they were pretty inconsistent. The plot was very rushed and it felt like the whole novel was more of an outline with a few full scenes thrown in. But I did enjoy it to an extent. It was light and I’m glad that I got to read it. I read it in a few hours and it did somewhat put me in a summer-y mood. But I was just left wanting more from this cute idea.

Overall rating:
3/5

Since All I Need didn’t quench my contemporary thirst, I had to buy another since youve been gonesummer-y book. And that book was Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson. I have wanted to read this book for a really long time, I just never got around to picking it up. So I ran into the bookstore twenty minutes before they closed (this seems to happen to me more than it probably should…) and I started it that night. I loved this book. The third fourth of this book was a little rushed and it didn’t have much detail, but the rest of the book was fabulous. I loved all of the characters, and Frank…oh, Frank…This whole idea was really cool and very well executed! So happy that I finally just read this book. It was amazing and since its still summer it’s not too late for you to read it before school starts!

Overall rating:
5/5

the heirThen I went on a 9 book Amazon shopping spree and started reading this book the second I got my hands on it. The Heir by Kiera Cass. *angels singing* and it was amazing! Eadlyn was bossy and spoiled acting at times, but it felt intentional. Like Kiera Cass did that on purpose so she could do some epic character development! Miss Cass knows how to write great characters so I think it’s wrong to just assume that she messed up. I can see where Eadlyn is coming from, even if I don’t agree with her, and that makes me think it’s intentional. Also, Kile is awesome. I really like him! Henri is a bit annoying to me just because he is classic the “hot guy”. But he is really sweet. It was so great to get to enter this world again! AND BY THE WAY, THE ENDING KILLED ME. I cannot wait a year. *curls up into a ball* *cries* *twitches*

Overall rating:
4.5/5

Then I read my first ever comic book! And that was Gotham Academy! I. gotham academyLOVED. THIS. BOOK. I thought that there were parts of it where I didn’t know exactly what was going on. And I was a bit confused by Olive, the main character at first. Now things make more sense but at first they didn’t. And I thought that I just wasn’t understanding it because I have never read a comic book before. But the whole supernatural feel with ghosts and such just made me love it even more! And I loved how the art always had that eerie blue tint to it that made it even more creepy and fun! The art overall was just GORGEOUS!

Overall rating:
4.5/5

And then I was on a graphic novel/comic kick. So I rented Lumberjanes from lumberjanesthe library. And it was just okay. I have heard nothing but incredible things about this book and its awesomeness. And…it wasn’t that awesome… It was a cute idea, but it felt a little like Spongebob. Just kind of all over the place and pretty brainless. The plot just seemed very last minute planned out. But I will probably rent the later volumes as they come out.

Overall rating:
3/5

shadow and boneAnd then I picked up what is now one of my favorite books. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. Oh, as Percy Jackson would say, my gods. This book was incredible! The world was so cool, despite being a little under-explained at times. The characters were all so cool! Even the ones that I hated, *cough* The Darkling *cough* I will probably have a full review of this up soon because MAL AND ALINA ARE *hyperventilation*

Overall rating:
5/5

And then I got through about a fourth (ish) of Meant to Be my Lauren Morrill. meant to beI am liking it so far. Just not loving it. The main character and I have so much in common but yet I still cannot relate to her. I feel like this book is trying to have a nerdy main character but not really nailing it. And the whole “I’m organized!” thing that Julia does every other page is a little annoying. I’m not really in a contemporary mood, either. So I will probably pick this book up again soon, because I won it in an awesome giveaway! But Booktube-a-thon (see my tbr here) is right around the corner and I am so excited that I can’t really get into any books!

So far rating:
3.5/5
